6th - 8th Grades
Design and Modeling
Through several activities and projects, students will learn the design process and develop an understanding of creativity and innovation. They are challenged to use and apply what they’ve learned throughout the unit to design a therapeutic toy for a child who has cerebral palsy.
Students will :
*Design an ankle-foot brace to assist a child with cerebral palsy
*Learn to measure using several forms and tools
*Create isometric drawings
*Create a 3D Puzzle Cube
*Use SketchUp and Geogebra to design computer images

Once designed and created, Gateway students tested other students and staff to determine how long it took them to complete their puzzle cubes!
Automation and Robotics
Students learn about the history and impact of automation and robotics as they explore mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation, and computer control systems. Using the VEX Robotics® platform, students apply what they know to design and program traffic lights, robotic arms, and more.
